BLACKPINK once again made history as it becomes the first girl group to soar to the top of Billboard’s Artist 100 chart after the release of its first full album!
BLACKPINK, on the October 17-dated chart, made a splash by skyrocketing from No. 65 last week to the No. 1 spot.
With the recent feat of the YG Entertainment superstars, Jisoo, Rose, Lisa, and Jennie became the first-ever girl group to top the chart launched in 2004.
Furthermore, following BTS and SuperM with the milestone, BLACKPINK joins the two supergroups as the third ever Korean group to achieve the said feat.
The Artist 100
Per Billboard, the Artist 100 was launched in 2014, and it measures the artist’s activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales.
On the other hand, the radio airplay, streaming, and social media fan interaction provide a weekly multi-dimensional artist popularity ranking.
The surge of BLACKPINK’s ranking is due to its first full album, THE ALBUM, released on October 2. The album features its collaboration with Selena Gomez titled Ice Cream, and the title track Lovesick Girls.
On this week’s Billboard 200, THE ALBUM debuted at No. 2, making it one of the most popular albums in the United States.
BLACKPINK also has two tracks on the Hot 100 songs chart, the Lovesick Girls and Ice Cream, launched at No. 59 and 64.
