Blackpink’s YouTube channel now surpassed Justin Bieber’s!
The 10th of September seems to be a busy day for Blinks and Lilies. Lisa of Blackpink made her solo debut with the commercially successful single Lalisa.
Fans were excited to see what she would do with the hip-hop song and its gorgeous music video, and the Thai-born star did not disappoint. Then there were rumors that, in addition to Lalisa dominating the charts, Blackpink as a whole had smashed a YouTube record.
Forbes went through the K-pop section of YouTube last month and published a list of the most influential and highest-earning K-pop artists.
Blackpink was the second-highest K-pop artist on the list, as well as the top K-pop female act. On August 31, they had 64.6 million YouTube subscribers and 19.2 billion views, which was more than the first-place K-pop artist.
Blackpink made about 13.5 billion won ($11.6 million) from 372 videos. Blackpink is now the most subscribed YouTube artist of all time.
Blackpink is on top of YouTube artists
On September 10, YouTube announced that Blackpink’s channel had surpassed Justin Bieber’s as the most subscribed YouTube artist with 65.2 million followers, beating Justin Bieber’s previous record of 65.1 million subscribers.
Blackpink’s subscription count had increased to 65.3 million after four hours of reporting. It’s worth noting that, although Justin Bieber launched his channel in 2007, Blackpink did it in 2016, making it an even more remarkable achievement.
‘Lalisa’ shatters records
Lisa’s solo debut, like Blackpink’s, has gotten a lot of attention. With 800,000 pre-orders before its release, Lalisa set a new record for the most pre-orders by a K-pop female soloist.
Lisa joins Rosé and IU as the third female solo artist to reach the milestone of 200k sales. Although it was just released a few hours ago, Lalisa holds the greatest first-day sales record for a K-pop female soloist, with 312k copies sold.
The main song and the b-side tune, Money, are now at the top of the iTunes charts across the globe.
The song has topped iTunes in 39 countries, with Lalisa placing at #4 in the United States. The top two songs on the US iTunes Kpop Songs Chart are both Lalisa and Money.
The song also performed well on the Korean charts, topping Bugs, reaching the top 30 of Genie, and entering MelOn.
In addition, the music video for Lalisa has received 33 million views in only 90 minutes, making it the quickest debut music video to surpass 10 million views. It’s also the quickest female soloist music video to achieve 20 million and 30 million views.
