Three-person coop dungeon crawler Blightbound is coming out on Steam Early Access this summer.
Developer Ronimo Games and Devolver Digital are looking for a new indie high-fantasy IP. Blightbound is unlike anything that both studios published before.
The gritty high-fantasy atmosphere has Devolver’s fingerprints all over it. At the same time, the color and storytelling are a reminder of the talent Ronimo has.
World of Blight starts with a dead beast of old
The story of Blight starts with the death of the Shadow Titan, a legendary beast. The bestial plague was a thorn to the land, and heroes have come to slay it. Once slain, the monster is more of a ticking time bomb.
Shadow Titan’s death created a corrupting fog from its corpse, turning anything and everything it touches into evil. This corruption became troublesome, as darkness became pervasive in every corner of the land. To avoid the poison, the remnants of humanity sought refuge up in the mountains.
At long last, @devolverdigital and we are proud to announce Blightbound!

Decades into the story, the player and his allies will journey out into the void.
Every player can fulfill specific roles in their teams – from warrior to assassin or mage. They will go out into the world fighting colossal monsters and solve puzzles that unlock the world.
ACCORDING TO THE STEAM PAGE, PLAYERS OF BLIGHT CAN “EXPLORE HANDCRAFTED DUNGEONS, FIGHT A TERRIFYING CADRE OF MYSTICAL AND MONSTROUS ENEMIES, GRAB VALUABLE LOOT AND RECOVER FALLEN HEROES TO EXPAND YOUR ROSTER OF AVAILABLE WARRIORS.”
Players of Blightbound can play using local coop or online coop, depending on how they want it. Many also have a choice of over 20 heroes; each will their skills and ultimate abilities.
Ronimo Games’ offering a mix of Darkest Dungeon and arcade beat ‘em ups
The current trailer for the game does not have a lot that fans can go on. The 2D sidescrolling, almost roguelike in looks, is similar to Darkest Dungeon. The aesthetics use hand-drawn assets, and the use of a 2.5D space is gorgeous.
The game is also reminiscent of arcade beat ‘em ups like Final Fight and TMNT. The sidescrolling is not too busy for it to look overcrowded. It is also not sparse enough to make the world feel too empty on its own.
The colors on the art are right on the money. The coloration is dark and gloomy, but distinct on every point. The focus of the entire game is on teamwork, so knowing how to assume roles is super important.
Blightbound will be a great pick this summer from Steam’s Early Access. Other promising games in early access include Tainted Grail, another high-fantasy grimdark game.
