Blizzard redeems itself with latest ‘Diablo Immortal’ trailer during ChinaJoy 2020

Share

Blizzard took quite a backlash after initially announcing Diablo Immortal for the mobile platform years back. But, the recent trailer showed great improvements.

Micky News previously reported that Diablo Immortal would likely be tackled in ChinaJoy 2020 based on the promotional posters that fans saw. Although the game wasn’t released during the event, the Chinese crowd was offered a brand new game trailer, which included a bit of gameplay.

The western fan base for the Diablo franchise did not receive the news about the new mobile as warmly as Blizzard may have thought. But the recent trailer might change their minds.

Screenrant describes the initial Diablo Immortal reveal as a “calamity.” Of course, the announcement—which was in BlizzCon 2018—was received with quite an outrage as fans were expecting some Diablo 4 news instead.

Also, there’s the claim that the Diablo game should just be played on PC as porting to mobile will hurt the graphic quality that the game franchise is famous for. There’s also this fear that the mobile expansion might tun out to be a “permanent shift.”

The new Diablo Immortal trailer

Nevertheless, Blizzard might be in for a redemption considering the improved graphics seen on the latest trailer.

Considering the limitations smartphones to render game graphics, Diablo Immortal was seen to be promising—character-wise and overall graphics. Although, it’s still reportedly far from the graphics of Diablo 4.

Based on the trailer, it looks like the character classes will all originate from Diablo 3. As previously reported, the game’s narrative is set between Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and Diablo 3.

The media outlet further discussed that there’s the gameplay familiarity from the Diablo series, which is good to hear. This means that Blizzard is not moving too far astray from the beloved franchise’s core.

For the classes, Gamerant confirms six classes to be made available at launch. The classes are:

  • Barbarian
  • Monk
  • Wizard
  • Crusader
  • Demon Hunter
  • Necromancer

Community feedback for Diablo Immortal

A very devoted and closed-knit player base, such as the Diablo community, might be very hard to please, most especially when there is a feeling that the devs are moving astray from the game’s core that they’ve come to love.

In a Reddit thread, a few users discussed the recent trailer release. The upside is, the new design of classes was loved.

Overall, Diablo Immortal is not looking as bad as many might perceive it to be. As Screenrant puts it, the mobile game has a “tall task ahead,” considering the footsteps it has to follow and overcoming the negative feedback.

Mobile games are never comparable to that of their PC counterparts. Yet Call of Duty: Mobile is attracting quite the audience considering the graphics aren’t at par with its PC and console counterparts.

Based on the trailer, Diablo Immortal has a good chance to succeed. Right now, pre-registration has opened in China, based on Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad’s tweet. The game will be made available for Android and iOS.
