Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will, reportedly, get a sequel, as a financial report reveals that a “second version is in development.”
With the overall success of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the game is in high-gear for its next iteration. A financial report by Digital Bros, the parent company of RotN publisher 505 Games, revealed a “second version”.
Ritual of the Night made 30.2 million euros
Ritual of the Night has been the highly-successful spiritual successor to Koji Igarashi’s Castlevania series. Ritual has Igarashi at the helm, who made it clear this is a modernization of everything fans love about the franchise.
RotN features almost every aspect of Castlevania, including the side scroller platforming and map exploration. It also offers a lot of new features, including crafting and RPG elements
The game sold more than a million copies by June 2020. The Digital Bros report note that the game has 30.2 million euros of limited revenue. At the same time, Bloodstained still has an expected 30 million euros worth of lifetime revenues at least.
The title took as long as four years of development for it to release. Ritual of the Night came in June 2019, originally expecting to launch in 2017. It also raised more money from backers, receiving as much as $5.5 million in backing.
Next RotN should improve on current game
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night receiving a “second version” will be something that fans would love. This much of a detail means nothing in the long run, unless there are some leaks and confirmations for the future.
RotN follows the Miriam, an orphan magician with a curse that is slowly crystalizing her body. Set in 18th century England, she must fight through a demon-infested castle, much like Castlevania.
The story of the game is quite interesting, to say the least. The game still has a ton of potential for storytelling, and it’s a good question where Ritual of the Night goes. It’s unlikely that it will abandon Metroidvania style gameplay any time soon.
Even then, Bloodstained would need to elevate their gameplay if a second title is even coming. It is weird that the sequel is called “second version” but it is becoming common parlance. The financial report also used the same term for Ghostrunner’s upcoming sequel.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is available for all platforms at the moment. This includes PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and even for iOS and Android. There is no information if the game will come to next-gen platforms.
