The iconic movie is the first project that Brad Pitt and Jolie starred in years ago.
Weeks ago, Amazon announced their decision to launch a new series centered on the two lead characters in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
The roles of married assassins were given to Phoebe Waller-Bride and Donald Glover.
In the movie, Pitt and Jolie played the role of a married couple who also work as assassins.
Now, Woman’s Day is alleging that the exes are furious over the news of a reboot.
“They have somewhat bruised egos seeing their characters reimagined by younger stars. There was even supposed to be a sequel. They might still be together if they’d made a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel instead of that awful By the Sea movie,” the source said.
The insider also claimed that Pitt and Jolie aren’t thrilled to know that there’s a possibility that they would be dragged back into the hype surrounding their former roles.
“And the last thing they want is to be reminded of those golden times. Certainly not when they’re in the middle of an ugly, ongoing divorce,” the source said.
While it is true that a Mr. & Mrs. Smith movie is in the works, Brad Pitt and Jolie have not reacted to the news.
As such, there’s no way for the tabloid to know the exes thoughts on the project.
Jolie and Pitt have been staying mum about their ongoing custody battle, which is what they’re focused on right now.
Last year, it was revealed that the Maleficent star was trying to remove some of the key individuals in her case.
Earlier this month, Jolie also spoke with British Vogue about her home life with her six children. She said that her kids have grown up to become wonderful individuals.
As for Brad Pitt, he’s not conducted interviews in recent weeks. Last year, reports revealed that he and Nicole Poturalski have called it quits.
