Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, reportedly, refused to get on board and star in the 2005 film, “Brokeback Mountain.”
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are some of the most popular Hollywood actors in recent times. They are also some of the most successful, considering all of the accolades that have received over the years.
Just recently, the two male celebrities teamed up for Quentin Tarantino’s latest project, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The 2019 film was a huge success as the production and cast received several nominations and awards. It even became one of the “top ten films” of the year.
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio enjoyed working together
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio found their pairing as a “pleasant experience.” As stated, they had “great fun” working for the 2019 film.
Aside from the enjoyment of working together, both male actors reportedly sang praises and commendations toward each other. “There’s great relief” in knowing that “you’ve got the best of the best”, Brad said of Leonardo.
Meanwhile, the Titanic actor reportedly shared that Brad is “not only a terrific actor” but, a “professional” too. It was “incredibly easy working with Brad,” Leonardo added.

Prior to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the two actors worked only in one project, as per PopSugar. As revealed, they collaborated for the 2015 film, The Audition, alongside Robert DeNiro.
They ‘turned down’ Brokeback Mountain
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio’s work collaboration would have had started much earlier if only they did not turn down “groundbreaking roles.” As it happened, both of the actors refused to accept the lead roles for Brokeback Mountain, according to Cheat Sheet.
The reports did not reveal, though, which roles Brad and Leo turned down. But, in an interview with the original creator and director, Van Sant, he reportedly said that “nobody wanted to do it.”
As explained, the material, during its development, “was not attracting” the attention of many celebrities. The director, then, said that aside from Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, he also approached the other “usual suspects.”
The list, reportedly, included Matt Damon and Ryan Phillipe. However, “they all said no,” Van Sant added.
Brokeback Mountain has become one of the “most successful films of all time”
After the challenges that the director, Van Sant faced from the beginning, it all reportedly paid off at the end. As it happened, Brokeback Mountain has since been deemed as “one of the most successful films of all time,” as per IndieWire.
It was unfortunate, however, that Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as the other Hollywood actors, turned down the roles. As it turned out, the roles went to Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, who, later on, won the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards.
