Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. However, Jolie was not the first choice opposite Pitt for the action comedy film.
E! News released some fascinating facts about Brad Pitt. According to the outlet, Pitt brought the Mr. & Mrs. Smith script to Doug Lima. However, he briefly backed out from the project after learning that the production cast Nicole Kidman as his co-star.
Producer Arnon Milchan revealed the reason behind Pitt’s decision in the 2011 book Confidential: The Life of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon. Pitt reportedly felt that he had no chemistry with the Bit Little Lies star. Apparently, Kidman declined the project, so it was offered to another actress.
The production decided to cast Angelina Jolie. Pitt only returned to the project after Jolie had signed on.
Jennifer Aniston revealed that she met Angelina Jolie once and before she and Brad Pitt started filming for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The Friends alum saw Jolie and pulled over her car.
Aniston introduced herself to Jolie as Pitt’s wife. She also told Jolie that Pitt was excited to work with her. The Murder Mystery star even wished that they would have a great time filming.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a great time while filming. In fact, in an almost four-minute outtake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie couldn’t stop giggling the whole time while filming. The two couldn’t stop laughing in between takes, during a small conversation, or even in an action sequence.
Due to their behavior on set, many had the impression that they were flirting. Unfortunately, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time.
In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2010, Angelina Jolie addressed the rumors about the Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel. She admitted that many were asking if she and Brad Pitt would do another movie. However, she found doing it “strange” because they were already together at the time.
“People have tried. And it’s strange: do we have kids in the movie? We’ve thought about that, but it becomes personal now that we actually have kids. And if we work on it, we pull from our own life, which is funny to us, but you feel strange sharing too much,” Jolie said
“We did ask somebody to look into Mr. & Mrs. to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn’t anything original. It was just, Well, they’re going to get married, or they’ve got kids, or they get separated. Never great.”
