The anticipated latest installment in the Bravely Default franchise, Bravely Default 2, is already nearing its release. To coincide with the game’s debut, some characters are making their way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the form of spirits.
Confirming the crossover is SSBU’s official Japanese Twitter account who claims the event taking place on Feb. 26, 2021. Which, to reiterate, is the same date that Bravely Default 2 is releasing on the Nintendo Switch.
Check out the Spirit Board
Once the spirits officially join the SSBU universe, players can anticipate seeing them appearing at the Spirit Board. That is, showing as an available quest to battle, with the chance of unlocking them, if successful. Much like previous crossovers with Smash, these new spirits will likely have time-constraint availability. But not something to miss out on as they will eventually appear on the in-game shop.

With pictures depicting characters from the BD franchise and a snippet of texts pointing to the sequel, the upcoming event is conspicuous to literally anyone, most especially when it showcases the series’ protagonists, Seth, Gloria, Adelle, and Elvis, in their beautiful sketches.
However, any non-Japanese who come across the tweet could be missing out on one crucial detail about the collaboration. As per the accompanying description translation mentioned in GameRant, it suggests that only two spirits will join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s fray.
While common intuition would say that only two of the four characters will make it, it could be something else entirely. Looking into SSBU’s previous tie-up, particularly with Octopath Traveler, it’s very feasible that each spirit would contain a pair. In this instance, possibly a combination between Seth and Gloria for one, and Adelle and Elvis for another.
Same, but different
The comparison between BD2 and OT in relation to SSBU boils down to their commonality in having the same development team. Which, if indeed the case, would be very telling.
Further revelation came with the subsequent tweets, showing what to expect with the spirit. In particular, it is told that Seth and Gloria are going to be a 3-Star Ace spirit belonging in the Defense class. Getting their spirit would require a face-off against Zelda and Mii Swordfighter duo on the Delfino Plaza Stage.
Meanwhile, details about Adelle and Elvis’ spirit are obscure.
With the said figures joining the fight in SSBU, as spirits, already set in stone, so is the improbability of them becoming fighters.
