Netflix is unwrapping an exciting gift for fans of period TV drama on Dec. 25. The new show Bridgerton will drop all of its 10 episodes on the streaming platform on Christmas Day.
Bridgerton is Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes’ very first Netflix show. Created by Chris Van Dusen, who is also the showrunner and has had a long working relationship with Rhimes, the series is a peek into the lives of Regency London high society.
Van Dusen confirmed on his Twitter account that his show will premiere around the world on Christmas.
Could not be more excited to finally share @Bridgerton with THE WORLD on DECEMBER 25TH! I hope you’ll fall in love with this little show about love as much as I, along with this incredible cast and crew, LOVED making it. #BridgertonIsComing #Dec25 🐝🎩💃❤️ pic.twitter.com/JKXE1LHe7y

Who stars in the Netflix romantic drama?
Described as “romantic, scandalous and quick-witted,” the series stars Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of an influential British family. The show will open with Daphne’s debut and her new goal in life: find a husband and replicate the perfect marriage of his parents.
Daphne’s choice for a partner in life, however, has to get clearance from her older brother, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). Anthony thumbs down many of Daphne’s suitors until there are no more good choices.
Soon, she meets the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), and the attraction is undeniable. However, both proclaim they do not want anything to have to do with each other.
Making matters worse is Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews), the pen name of the society scandals writer in the pages of the newspapers. The mysterious woman casts doubt on Daphne’s integrity as a debutante. She will serve as the show’s narrator.
The show also stars Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington, Adjoe Andoh as Lady Danbury, and the other members of the Bridgerton family — Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell), Lady Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Lady Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
What is the show about?
Bridgerton is based on the bestselling series of novels with the same title from author Julia Quinn. Her forte is historical romance and this particular story centers on love, friendship and family. It’s set between 1813 to 1827.
The book series actually contains 12 novels so there will be plenty of material for succeeding seasons, should Netflix renew the series. The first season will be about the first book, The Duke and I, which was released in 2000, will have eight episodes.
I’ve been a fan of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series since I can remember. The originality. The sexiness. The storytelling. Everything about it. I quickly knew that @shondaland had to turn them into a series. pic.twitter.com/2kyVMa2NpI

Rhimes signed on to produce the series following her multi-million deal with Netflix in July 2018. Casting on the show started a year later and then the cast and crew started filming in Bath, London and Somerset for the rest of 2019.
Netflix will likely release the first teaser to Bridgerton by November.
