Amid all the debuts of the new coming of age series and movies, Bridgerton proved that historical dramas can still pass people’s tastes.
Only a month after the release of Season 1, Chris Van Dusen’s series immediately reached the top of the streaming site’s most-watched flicks.
A new blog post by Netflix says that the series — which is based on Bridgerton books — made it to the top 10 of all countries except Japan.
The new series also, reportedly, became number one in 83 countries, including the US, UK, India, South Africa, and Brazil, among others.
The Shondaland romance-drama became the biggest series on the platform as of the writing. It all thanks to the 82 million households who watched the film.
The viewers, reportedly, watch at least two minutes of the series during its first 28 days since the premiere.
Netflix only counts multiple user profiles as one household view. Despite that, Bridgerton remained firm and outshined every series on the site.
“Indeed, the success of Bridgerton propelled the books into The New York Times bestseller lists for the first time, and 18 years after they were first published,” the Vice President for Original Series, Jinny Howe, said.
She noted that the success of the series is due to people wanting to see themselves reflected on any stories.
And Bridgerton successfully offered that to people.
Initially, Netflix expected the series to hit only 63 million member households within its first four weeks since its debut.
But it went beyond that.
The story, which led to the success of the series, tells the life of the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton, Daphne (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and her first encounters on the marriage market.
The series also reveals her courtship with the Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page).
Aside from Dynevor and Page, several stars have also joined the franchise since the beginning.
Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton), Ruby Barker (Marina Thompson), Sabrina Bartlette (Siena Rosso), Harriet Cains (Philippa Featherington), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), and Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington), among others, also became part of the cast members.
After enjoying massive success, Lady Whistledown announced on Twitter about the new installment that will arrive soon.
“I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion,” the text read.
