MCU’s Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Brie Larson, has praised the new director of Captain Marvel 2. She thinks of her to be perfect to helm the sequel.
According to Screen Rant, actress Brie Larson admired Nia DaCosta’s confidence and leadership qualities. These are why she thinks of her to be the best person for directing Captain Marvel 2.
Marvel Studios brought a new face as a director after the first installment starring Larson received great but not-so-solid reactions. Many people felt that it relied heavily on the character’s comic book-inspired origin storyline. And that it lacked anything new in terms of her variations as the main protagonist.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck helmed the first part in 2019.
Captain Marvel 2: What to expect from the sequel?
When it comes to Nia DaCosta, she also has a similar experience level to the previous directors. She has only two projects to her credits, namely Little Woods and this year’s upcoming flick, a Candyman remake. The latter was scheduled to release last year, but it couldn’t happen due to the pandemic.
Speaking of Brie’s praise for DaCosta, then the actress was excited after watching the director’s presentation for Captain Marvel 2.
In a recent interaction with Lily Singh on A Little Late with Lily Singh, the Room star informed about the sequel and how everything’s going on.
“It’s amazing, and I’m so excited that it’s announced and I can talk about it. Nia is amazing and she got the job because she is the best person for the job. That’s one of my favorite parts about this. She just gave an incredible presentation and I’m inspired by her. She has confidence and it’s a big deal to step into like, this thing, the Marvel universe, this huge thing! And to have a leader who’s just like, ‘Yeah, I’m meant to be here.'”
As is the case with Marvel Studios, there’s always been an emphasis towards pushing more unknown faces when it comes to direction. Most of the MCU blockbuster installments were helmed by less popular individuals like Russo Brothers (Avengers and Captain America series). Then there are Spider-Man films from Jon Watts and the upcoming Eternals title by Chloe Zhao.
MCU expanding with new projects
Meanwhile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to expand a lot in the coming years. There are many exciting and anticipated projects scheduled to arrive soon. And the streak has already begun with the latest Phase four opener WandaVision. The Disney Plus TV series just made its debut on the streamer on Friday.
A long list of future titles in both movies and TV shows include Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki series. 2021 will also witness movies like Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Spider-Man 3.
Coming back to Captain Marvel 2, the title will likely arrive under Phase five next year.
