Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 may still be far off but fans are already looking into what’s next for the comedy series. Fortunately, showrunner Dan Goor spilled some few details of the show’s future.
Goor recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and it turns out that they have already started meeting together via Zoom for Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8.
Will fans see a coronavirus episode?
One of the questions asked was whether the show will incorporate the current global situation into the next season.
The show is set in Brooklyn which is currently one of the places in the U.S. greatly affected by the COVID-19 virus. Many of the first responders in the borough of New York have also been hit by the deadly bug.
As a show that features first responders, Goor said that they are already talking about the possibility of writing the pandemic into one of the episodes.
He said that while there is value to making the series corona-free, they also don’t want to just ignore the issue.
“There is a debate about what next year will look like,” said Goor. “I don’t think anybody wants us to, nor do we want to, have our characters toiling away in the depths of the pandemic.”
Goor also said that they are challenged with how they will keep Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 funny while tackling the pandemic. In the end, the showrunner stated that there is a possibility that there will be an episode or parts of episodes that will explore the issue.
Jake and Amy as parents
Season 7 may have left with a non-cliffhanger ending but fans are still wondering what it would be like for the new parents.
The season finale episode showed Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) welcoming their son. Goor teased that they are going to make the characters’ parenthood natural as possible.
He also said mentioned that they are looking into bringing tensions such as balancing their careers and being parents. They are not planning to spend 95 percent of the time showing them in their house though.

The 99th precinct will still be the primary setting. They are also looking into showing the dynamics of the odd-couple as parents. Season 8 is basically going to be touching a lot of the parenting for Jake and Amy.
What else to expect in season 8?
Goor also spoke with TVLine and he revealed that he wants to see more of Chelsea Peretti’s character Gina Linetti. He admitted that they weren’t able to figure out a Gina episode in season 7. They are planning to show more of her in Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8.
