The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War devs are making big efforts to drop easter eggs for the upcoming title.
The gaming community has been following the twist and turns of what seems like a mystery hunt. Instead of dropping a typical Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer, the devs decided to keep its fanbase engaged.
Activision has been sending mystery boxes to content creators. The first one came right before Black Ops Cold War was confirmed. Since then, the game’s creator is having fun dropping codes and hints that lead to the upcoming gameplay and theme.
PawntakesPawn mystery
To start with, Activision, through its series of mystery puzzle drop, created a website with a URL, pawntakespawn.com. Last month, the said website revealed the storyline timeline of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Just the other day, content creators received another mystery boxes from Treyarch. This time, the puzzle unveils the game’s Zombie mode.
Per Essentially Sports, YouTube game influencer, NoahJ456 did an unboxing of the latest boxes that came from Treyarch. As expected, its another wave of puzzles to solve.
The smaller box labeled “T4-A” had a video converter software, a restricted letter with lots of redacted sentences, an instruction manual for what appears to be a retro PC. Furthermore, the first box also had a cipher square card, a boot disk, a software disk, an old keyboard, and a TANDY 1000 CPU.
TANDY 1000 was created 35 years ago, in 1984, and got discontinued in 1993. Imagine Activision collecting a few of this just to drop a part of the new CoD gameplay.
To complete the whole retro set-up, the second box labeled “T4-B” was a big chunky monitor. Basically, Activision sent a physical model of what fans can see on the pawntakespawn website.
After setting up, Noah had to decipher the code from the redacted latter. Initially, he received an error message despite getting the code right. The main reason might because of its unveiling the next day, September 23, 09:00 AM Pacific Time.
Noah did a whole live stream on the Activision‘s latest official drop hours later. He had to decipher a new set of codes to be entered on the retro PC.

What was the new easter egg?
After working with a few more content creators to decipher another set of puzzle pieces, the team ended up coming back the next day, on September 24.
Although, multiple gaming publications believe this is strongly related to the Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War Zombies mode.
This is getting a pretty long problem solving to get one piece of the game at a time. GamesRadar, for example, “officially stumped” after getting errors from trailer drop.
Word on the vine is, others might not be liking this very laborious mystery-solving for hints. While others are enjoying the thrill.
Meanwhile, the game’s alpha testing is getting mixed reviews so far.
