The beloved game mode will be starting over with a fresh new story and cross-play support in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
A whole new Zombies mode is set to arrive with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. With Activision finally unveiling the new Zombies mode on Wednesday, players now know what to expect from the game.
Interestingly, the Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode will support cross-play and even cross-generation.
Cross-play and cross-gen in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies
Wednesday’s Zombies mode unveiling had revealed cross-play support via a video featuring the director of communications for Treyarch. Cross-play or cross-platform play basically allows players of various platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC, and mobile) to play with each other.
The Zombies co-op mode is without a doubt as popular, if not more, as the Call of Duty’s multiplayer and single-player modes. However, this is the first time that the co-op mode will feature cross-play support.
Furthermore, Activision had also revealed that the Zombies mode will also support cross-generation. This means that the generation of the platform players are using will not prevent them from playing with players from other generations.
“Whether you’re a long-time Zombies veteran who also plays Multiplayer, or a first-time Call of Duty player completely new to Zombies, expect to drop into the fun faster than ever before with friends and the greater community, no matter the platform or generation you play on,” says one of the developers in a blog post.
Other features
The new Zombies mode will come with a number of updated content. First, weapons will now have an associated rarity.
The developers did this to make the weapons more sustainable. This will make them last through to the succeeding rounds.
The damage output and the attachments will also depend on the rarity of a weapon. The higher the rarity, the more damage it does.
Furthermore, Treyarch had also brought back the Pack-a-Punch to transform players’ weapons. Perks had also returned to the game mode while crafting makes a timely introduction.

But one feature that would definitely excite players is the all-new Exfil feature. Whenever players feel like they’re about to be overrun, they can dial up a helicopter to exfiltrate the combat zone. However, doing so would bring more zombies to the battle as the team waits for the helicopter.
Completing this task, however, would earn the players a number of rewards should they manage to survive.
Catch the all-new Zombies mode on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War when it arrives this November 13.
