The “Nacht der Untoten” was the first-ever Zombies mode map. Now, it’s making a glorious comeback on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies.
Massive changes are coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode. Thankfully, fans can expect to see a beloved and familiar location when the game finally arrives.
The first Zombies map on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Call of Duty first introduced the concept of a zombie game mode back in 2008. When Call of Duty released World At War, players first got a taste of the zombie-killing action only after they completed the campaign. At the time, the zombies mode was a secret mode playable only after the story is completed.
The mode became an instant hit and Activision has adapted it into the succeeding Call of Duty titles, most notably in the Black Ops series. The Zombies mode no longer became just a secret mode. Instead, it got its own storyline and special features.
While the original Zombies storyline ended with the last Black Ops game, it’s all set to start anew in another Black Ops title. And it is only fitting that Treyarch, the studio behind the first Zombies mode, will spearhead that new beginning.
Die Maschine
The Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode will be set in Die Maschine. This is basically Nacht der Untoten remodeled in order to fit the new game’s timeline. Because the game is set in the cold war, Nacht der Untoten will look as it is in the 80’s rather than the 40’s. Furthermore, it will be the place where the bunker “Die Maschine” is located.
New Storyline
As previously mentioned, the new Zombies mode will be set in the 1980s in Die Maschine. Players will become part of a CIA-backed response team called Requiem. Interestingly, the familiar Grigori Weaver of the original Black Ops game leads the team the player takes part in.
Tasked with exploring and investigating a rundown graffiti-filled World War II bunker, Die Maschine, Requiem would discover not only unnatural phenomena but another enemy group.
The Omega Group is a Soviet-backed division sent to study the unnatural phenomena and anomalies and figure out how to harness it.
Requiem will have to fight to suppress the Zombie mystery of Die Maschine while clashing with the opposing Omega Group. Players can also expect plenty of other characters that could aid or hinder their team.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to arrive on November 13 following the release of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.
