The Call of Duty: Mobile Anniversary update has officially rolled out globally. Surprises are expected all month long, starting with Blackout‘s Alcatraz map.
What better way to celebrate the first year of Activision’s mobile game phenomenon, Call of Duty: Mobile, than to commemorate it with one of its OG Battle Royale map of the same franchise.
Blackout was Black Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode. Somewhat like the Warzone of today’s Modern Warfare. The Black Ops franchise has been a reviving trend lately. Most especially now that the next CoD title will come from Treyarch’s signature franchise.
In fact, there was a point in the chain of rumors that Treyarch might revive the OG BR mode, instead of the Warzone integration. While that idea remains hanging, Activision has decided to give its CoD fans a Blackout cure.
The thrill of the Alcatraz in BR
In an official press release, Activision officially confirms the Alcatraz map but for a limited time only. It is set to be a second Battle Royale map.
An excerpt of the announcement reads:
“First seen in Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Alcatraz challenges players to fight for survival in and around the infamous San Francisco Bay prison.
Alcatraz is a smaller map than Isolated, our original BR map, placing a greater focus on close-quarters engagements. Keep your head on a swivel and take advantage of the map’s verticality to get up high and rain destruction on your enemies below. Gather your loot fast, watch those corners, and be the last squad standing.”
If players think the 10v10 MP mode was intense, then the isolated and more narrow Alcatraz map will be a new heart-racing adventure.
Unfortunately for those who prefer Single in Battle Royale, the Classic-Alcatraz BR mode is only playable in Squad. Nonetheless, players could always untick the “Fill the Squad” box, but that only means they’d be up against grouped enemies.
Party Royale in Call of Duty: Mobile?
It looks like Activision is taking a page from Epic Games’ successful Party Royale mode in Fortnite. Although in the case of CoDM it is called “The Club.”
Players can access the portal by clicking the tiny Call of Duty: Mobile logo behind their operators on the landing page of the game.
The Club looks like an underground bar, with a disco stage and lots of mini-games. In there, players are able to socialize with the whole CoDM community. The game just went from taking soldier missions to hanging out Gaia Online-style.
Although, there is no news yet if a concert will transpire in-game, just like Fortnite. The stage, however, looks like it’s ready to host a virtual party.
It looks like Activision might be cooking something up and players should not miss any Anniversary events, as it is a once in a lifetime experience.
As for the Alcatraz map, hopefully, it’ll stay for the rest of the month. Unlike the 20v20 Warfare which pops up every now and then only.
