Why Camilla Parker Bowles is the only royal bride without tiara

Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles tied the knot in 2005.

Years after Princess Diana’s unfortunate death, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles made their relationship official before the public. Reports said that the public did not receive it well because of all the controversies that their relationship brought.

But, despite the public’s dislike, they wedded each other in 2005. It was unlike any other royal wedding. As it happened, the event was private, and they did not tie the knot in a church.

Alongside this, the Duchess of Cornwall is the only royal bride who did not wear a tiara on her royal wedding, according to Cheat Sheet.

Queen Elizabeth loans her tiaras to royal brides

It has become a tradition for every royal bride to wear a tiara from the Queen’s collection. The British Monarch, reportedly, loans them to the bride and even helps them choose from her set of tiaras.

In 2011, Kate Middleton wore the Cartier Halo Scroll tiara, according to the Telegraph. Seven years later, Queen Elizabeth loaned the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau and the Boucheron’s Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiaras to Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie, respectively.

As for Princess Beatrice, who just recently wedded Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi amid the pandemic crisis, wore the Queen Mary Fringe tiara. It is, reportedly, the same tiara that Queen Elizabeth wore on her wedding day in 1947.

While it is part of the royal tradition, many have wondered why Camilla Parker Bowles did not wear one on her wedding day. Reports, then, claimed that there are two reasons behind it.

Why Camilla Parker Bowles did not wear a royal tiara

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles tied the knot in 2005. Following the event, Camilla automatically became the Duchess of Cornwall.

But, during their special day, the Duchess, reportedly, opted to wear a cream hat, instead of a tiara. Hello! magazine claims that there are two possible reasons behind it.

The publication said that, firstly, it is because the royal wedding in 2005 was not Camilla’s first wedding. As noted, she married Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973, hence, the surname.

Although it remains unclear if this is the real reason behind it, reports said that Princess Anne also chose not to wear a tiara during her second wedding in 1992. However, many have since countered that Meghan Markle was also a divorcee, yet, she still wore a tiara on her second wedding in 2018.

As for the second reason why Camilla Parker Bowles did not wear a tiara on her wedding day, the publication claimed that this is because they had a civil wedding ceremony, instead of a ceremony inside a church. They did receive a church blessing, however, at St George’s Chapel afterward.
