Capcom Co is reporting record profits for the first quarter, all thanks to the surge hit titles that the studio released, including Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
In an investor report that spans the last three months until June 31, the company’s net sales more than doubled. This comes after the release of crucial titles in the Capcom Co lineup.
Net sales were up 104% to 48.4 billion yen, which translates to $440 million. Operating income soared by to 120.4% compared to last year, with net income going up to 121.9%.
Two titles carried record profits to Capcom
The past three months have become among the most profitable months for Capcom itself. It released three blockbuster titles, two of which qualify for the first quarter of this fiscal year.
These titles include Resident Evil Village, Monster Hunter Rise, and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The latter came out in June 25, so its two million plus sales worldwide don’t count yet. The former two, however, have been magnificent.
Resident Evil Village itself is among the fastest-selling Biohazard titles of all time. By July 8, the game already shipped 4.5 million units worldwide. The game itself was a hit among the fans, receiving a fantastic 82 metascore.
Monster Hunter Rise is also having a strong showing for a currently Switch-exclusive game. The title shipped seven million units in late May, shifting six million of those in April.
Capcom has more to offer
Capcom Co is having a great past few years so far. Its Resident Evil titles are a part of a much-beloved wave of remakes recently. Monster Hunter is growing bigger and bigger each year too.
“This quarter, Capcom’s core Digital Contents business drove business results through its continued pursuit of digital sales growth, including with a major new release in its flagship series Resident Evil Village and sales of catalog titles such as Monster Hunter Rise,” said Capcom in their report.
“Further, sales volume for its home video games were 13.3 million units (up 44.6% year-over-year). As a result, Capcom achieved its highest net sales as well as highest levels of all profit items for a first quarter.”
Capcom is still looking to keep the ball rolling. The company is building on Monster Hunter Rise to become one of its biggest titles ever. The Japanese studio is also hoping for Resident Evil Village to break the 8.5 million barrier to become its highest-selling title.
Capcom Co still has a lot more in store. They are expecting to release more titles in 2022, including the PC version of Rise.
