After two delays that see CD Projekt Red’s currently most-anticipated title moved from the original April release to November, the company is amping up the hype by promising to reveal information on DLC contents ahead of Cyberpunk 2077’s launch.
During a conference, CDPR President Adam Kicinski spoke to investors, telling that Cyberpunk 2077 will follow a similar route as The Witcher 3. Which, as it appears, pertains to how the game’s DLCs will be revealed—indeed on a date before the game’s actual launch. Akin to how the popular RPG’s two-story DLCs, Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine, were revealed weeks before the game launched.
“Yes, you can expect a similar path [to The Witcher 3] after release.”
Expansive Contents
Adding a cherry on top, it’s also announced that CDPR has plans of expanding the game’s content beyond what’s seen in The Witcher 3. Meaning, more contents to come to the game after its launch.
“You can expect more, actually. We’re not going into too many details today, but everything will be clear before release.”
More specifically, we are likely going to see more than just 16 DLC packs and two major expansions for Cyberpunk 2077. This is exactly was the case with The Witcher 3 when it got free post-release contents and the two main campaign DLCs.
The Witcher 3 in Hindsight
Those who are up-to-speed with their history would recall The Witcher 3 getting two pieces of DLCs every week across the span of two months. Despite being free, these DLCs offer more value in-game that makes them more of a necessity than optional, considering some of the DLC’s game-changing impact.
For instance, getting a new animation style, new quests, new gears, and New Game+ were not introduced as part of the game’s update. Rather, they came as optional DLCs.
As for the two DLCs that expand on The Witcher 3’s storyline, each of which offers no less than 10 hours of game time.
“As we are close to the release, expect the post-release plans to be revealed fairly soon. A series of free DLCs and expansions will be described. As I said, you can expect it fairly soon and then everything will be made clear.”
With an anticipated play duration of no less than 50 hours, Cyberpunk 2077 is gearing up towards becoming an epic game. One that, as it appears, is poised at becoming bigger than its older sibling, at least, in terms of content.
