Chris Harrison lost her long-time position on the Bachelor franchise, but he did not go home with empty hands.
Following his infamous exit from Bachelor, Chris Harrison, reportedly, received a high payout from the franchise.
In a report posted by Variety on Friday, it revealed that Harrison gained a payout of $9 million. The amount is currently not anywhere near to his previous $25 million demand, per Page Six.
The new report added that the 39-year-old host received nearly $10 million. The amount includes the aforesaid $9 million plus his remaining contractual fees.
This came after he, reportedly, threatened the franchise that he would “spill the dirt” if it would not pay him. The news outlet further detailed that part of the recent agreement mentioned about “amicable parting-of-ways.”
“Chris Harrison’s whole life was ‘The Bachelor,’ and he didn’t want to let go. He still is really sad to leave, and there have been very tough and very heated negotiations going on for weeks,” a source said, as quoted by Fox News.
Harrison first announced his exit in June after his indefinite hiatus. He found himself in the middle of hot waters after defending Rachel Kirkconnell and her attendance at an Antebellum-themed party in college.
At that time, Harrison issued his apology but remained unaware of the attention his defense got. He also said that he did not have an idea that the television interview would cause much backlash.
After his exit, ABC hailed Bachelorette alums Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams. The two will spearhead Katie Thurston’s season of the show.
Fans react to Harrison’s departure, payout
Soon after the news about Harrison’s payout emerged, internet users quickly criticized the show’s network for their decision. Some defended the former host and said that he deserved the amount.
One person said, “If I could get $9 mil for getting cancelled by my company, I would get a Twitter account today and start trolling.”
Another added, “Good For Him. I haven’t watched one episode of the new “racially/gender perfect show. Nothing he said or did was racist. All apart of woke culturing.”
“This will spell doom for the bachelor….cancel culture takes down not just another person but a longstanding TV franchise…..OVER NOTHING,” another wrote.
Currently, the Bachelor franchise continues its run. Chris Harrison, for his part, has not released an official statement yet.
