Christina Aguilera finally disclosed what she really felt after kissing Madonna years ago, and her reaction was astounding to hear.
The breathtaking performances completed the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. But Christina Aguilera heated the stage more when she kissed Madonna in front of thousands of people.
Years after it happened, Aguilera claimed that she still feels the same as she never really thought anything about it.
On Thursday, she sat for an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe where she openly spoke about the “low shock value” she felt then and now.
Although the lip-lock indeed left the viewers speechless and shocked, the 39-year-old singer maintained her cool during that time.
“Shock value gets more and more extreme or whatever. But honestly, at the time, yeah, I never thought anything of it,” she claimed. “It was like, ‘Okay, it’s two girls kissing.’ ”
It was not the first time she talked about the fabled kiss
Two years ago, she told SiriusXM’s Radio Andy that the way the media focused more on the kiss “was weird.”
Indeed, during that time, news outlets talked about the kiss instead of the duo’s performance.
“And you know why they cut it? The cut away to get Justin [Timberlake] ‘s reaction,” Aguilera recalled. “I saw the newspaper the next day and it was like, ‘Oh — well I guess I got left out of that one.'”
But despite that, she ended up shooing the oversight away since everything was whirlwind back then.
Aside from her performance and kiss with Madonna, Aguilera also performed Fighter with Dave Navarro, highlighting her MTV experience again.
Christina Aguilera Revealed Madonna’s Influence on Her Career
While the kiss did not affect her in any way, Aguilera admitted that Madonna herself brought an impact on her musical career.
According to the Not Myself Tonight hitmaker, the way the Queen of Pop reinvented herself was already a huge inspiration.
“When I was little, I was not allowed to listen to her or watch her videos or anything. It was just like a no-no, but then whenever you grow up, and I discovered her catalog and her videos and the fact that she had such a message,” she recollected.
Meanwhile, Madonna’s “Truth or Dare” documentary taught her to go so much deeper than merely singing a song.
Currently, both Aguilera and Madonna still top the charts with every song they release. Since their 2003 collaboration became a hit, fans can expect more of it in the future.
