The follow-up to the 2005 Constantine movie starring Keanu Reeves is apparently in the works, according to one of his co-stars.
Peter Stormare surprised fans of Constantine after posting a simple message on his Instagram. The actor, who worked alongside Reeves in the DC movie as Lucifer, shared a screen capture of an article commending his work in the movie.
The post featured Stormare in full Lucifer makeup and wardrobe. The image states his version of Satan is one of the best in film history. Stormare captioned his post with just four words.
“Sequel In The Works,” the actor wrote and did not elaborate on the details.

Waiting for 15 years
Fans have been waiting for Reeves to return as Constantine on the big screen for the last 15 years. There have been some talks about the sequel since, but nothing has been set in stone even as Reeves said that he wants to reprise his role as the Hellblazer and anti-hero.
Constantine director Francis Lawrence also recently spoke about doing another movie with Reeves and producer Akiva Goldsman. In an interview with SlashFilm, Lawrence said they have been wanting to come back for the second film, especially when there is a cult following just waiting to see the movie.
The director also said that they did plan out a sequel before but developing the story became complicated.
“It was tricky to come up with where to take it,” Lawrence said, adding that the first film with Reeves was such a personal story.
Lawrence also said that they do not have the rights to the film or the TV series and have looked into the possibility of acquiring it. Unfortunately, they were told that there are other plans for the Constantine property.
The actual ‘sequel’
DC and Warner Bros are actually putting together a production that will feature the Hellblazer in an upcoming live-action Justice League Dark series on HBO Max. JJ Abrams is developing the TV show, which was announced in January 2020. However, the producer and director won’t likely cast Reeves as Constantine or even Matt Ryan, who played the character in the short-lived TV series on NBC.
In September, reports came to light that the actor who will play Constantine on the TV show has been cast. But the studios have yet to make an official announcement.
Along with Justice League Dark, Abrams is also reportedly developing a standalone Constantine project. Fans now speculate that Stormare could be cast in any of these productions but until Warner Bros or DC confirms the stories, everything remains speculation.
