According to Games Industry, Control increased developer Remedy’s revenues by 30 percent. And it’s despite the lack of any other big release. It means that just a single game launch boosted its profits with a significant margin.
Speaking in detail, then the latest financial results of Remedy showed vast growth. The operating profit for twelve months till December 31st stood at €13.2 million. The figure is twice the amount the developer earned in 2019.
Due to Control, the full-year revenues jumped 30 percent to a total of €41.1 million. On the other hand, in the unaudited results under July to December last year, the profits increased 35 percent to €24.1 million. It is in terms of a year-to-year basis. And the operating profit for the same period doubled to €10.1 million.
Besides Control, there was no other release from the developer in the last year. It was acclaimed critically among the players as well. As a result, it has so far sold more than two million copies worldwide!
While speaking on the financial reports, Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala said that the title’s success is significant. Because “great games have long life cycles.”
“While we continue to support and take Control further, its development team is gradually shifting to work on a new Remedy game.”
The game launched on multiple platforms like Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon’s Luna service. There was an Ultimate Edition as well released later in 2020.
Earlier this month, it also arrived on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Hitman 3, Little Nightmares 2, and The Medium are already out in under two months. But it’s just the beginning of this year. And heavyweights are about to arrive soon.
Resident Evil Village, God of War: Ragnarok, Halo Infinite, Horizon Forbidden West, Back 4 Blood, and Returnal are highly-awaited.
