‘Council of Dads’ is not returning for a second season

Council of Dads fans will have to say goodbye to the show now. It’s no longer going to return to NBC for a second season.

It’s a sad day for all of those who followed the Perry family from the very start. NBC has decided not to renew the Council of Dads for season 2.

The announcement comes two episodes before the season 1 finale. Series star J. August Richards, who plays as Dr. Oliver Post, also revealed the cancellation on his Instagram account.

“So that’s a series wrap on @nbccouncilofdads (aka the show has been canceled)…” Richards wrote on the caption.

He then proceeded to thank executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater “for the willingness to give voice and representation to #gayfamilies, #blacklgbt, #qpoc and the worldwide #lgbtq community by telling the story of Oliver, Peter and Tess Post-Richards…”

Why was the show canceled?

The precise reason for the canceling of the Council of Dads is related to its viewership ratings.

According to Variety, “the series is averaging a 0.4 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and 2.8 million Live+Same Day viewers.”

It has been ranked as the network’s lowest-rated drama series of the season as well. The show was made in the mold of NBC’s other hit show This Is Us but it did not gain the same attention and success.

So now, it’s been axed off along with other NBC freshman series like Bluff City Law, Perfect Harmony, Indebted, Sunnyside, and Lincoln Rhyme.

When is the season 1 finale?

The family drama series just aired its penultimate episode so now it’s all set to air the series finale. Fans will get to see all of the characters one last time.

And as revealed in the season 1 episode 10 promo, it’s going to be packed with tension and surprises.

The synopsis says that episode 10 will kick off with Anthony (Clive Standen) arriving at the Perry home and finding Robin (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Theo (Emjay Anthony) in peril.

The hurricane is still causing the waters to rise so it seems like things are still chaotic in the Perry Home. Anthony, who was in Las Vegas, may just be the kind of help that they need.

Meanwhile, Oliver is going to be in doctor mode when Sage goes into early labor. He will be putting all his medical skills to work in the middle of the storm.

The Crab Shack’s future will also be left hanging in the balance from the storm damage. And as for the Perry Kids, they will be stunned about the news surrounding Luly

the future of the Crab Shack is left hanging in the balance from the storm damage and the Perry kids grapple with the stunning news about Luly (Michele Weaver).

Appearing as guests are Hilarie Burton and David Walton. Council of Dads season 1 finale will air on Thursday, July 2 on NBC.
