Almost everyone is advised to stay at home because of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily for gamers, there are countless video games to keep us happy and entertained during these trying times.
While the real world is hard to explore, for now, it’s the perfect time to try exploring video game worlds instead. There are many titles that offer a vast and open world to discover, and these are the games that might be able to help us get through during quarantine.
Hyrule – ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’
To this date, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild remains to be one of the best video games there is. A huge part of the game is devoted to exploring the land of Hyrule, which features diverse locales and an assortment of living creatures.
Hyrule has it all. A vast desert, snowy mountains, an active volcano, and an abandoned castle at the center of it all. Thanks to Link’s ability to climb, exploring this area has never been easier. Furthermore, the secrets that players can uncover with each trip can make those long walks more rewarding.
Every planet – ‘No Man’s Sky’
Although Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky had a shaky launch, there’s a lot of reason to get back into the game now because of the free updates. The biggest draw of the game was that players worldwide could explore a vast galaxy filled with over a quintillion planets. Each of the planets comes with its fauna and flora, as well as a layout.
Due to the game’s engine, it’s impossible to come across the same planet twice. Whether players are exploring on foot or their spaceship, No Man’s Sky’s endless galaxy is worth playing through again and again.
The West – ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’
Rockstar’s most recent game deserves all the awards it has gotten. The developer did create an epic wild west game, but perhaps what Rockstar deserves praise for the most is with how it created the open world.
The open world in Red Dead Redemption 2 is based on five American regions. It is large, diverse, and filled with countless sights to explore. What makes the world even more fun exploring is that it feels very much alive thanks to the NPCs and attention to detail that the developer has put into the game.
Ancient Greece – ‘Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is highly regarded as one of the best games in the series. Ubisoft’s retelling of ancient Greece is stunning, but there’s more to the world than meets the eye.
It’s fun to see ancient wonders through the game, and some teachers are even using it to give their students a virtual tour. From its high mountains to its open fields, the places in ancient Greece on the game are every bit stunning.
These worlds are a great escape from the current reality we are facing. While we can’t explore the world safely just yet, it might be wise to pick up a controller instead.
