COVID-19: 20.9% of the global population has received a vaccine

Share

Experts and officials across the globe have already administered over 2.45 billion COVID-19 doses, according to the latest data.

Despite the apparent hesitancy over the COVID-19 vaccines, the roll-out continues across the globe. The recent G7 summit in Cornwall even centered its agenda on the provision of doses, especially to the poorer countries.

The seven wealthy countries in the forum have committed to providing over 1 billion vaccines in the next year, according to Fortune. This then led the publication to cover the latest data of the vaccination campaign amid the pandemic across the globe.

All the significant figures

Based on the figures from Our World in Data, about 20.9 percent of the total population have already received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. The coverage of the data takes its limits from December 2, 2020, to June 15, 2021.

In specifics, the number equates to over 1.63 billion. As noted, however, this does equal the number of people who have already completed their jabs.

Nevertheless, the same publication shared that the number of fully vaccinated individuals has already reached over 737.57 million. But, this only encompasses the countries that reported their respective breakdown of vaccine distributions.

As for the doses administered globally, the figure has reached over 2.45 billion. The count is per single dose, though, and does not equate to the total number of vaccinated individuals.

Case surge due to “complacency”

Over 211 countries have already begun their vaccination programs against COVID-19. But, there are only less than 25 regions that have vaccinated more than 50 percent of their total population.

Forbes said that some of these countries are even experiencing a surge of new cases. Despite the high vaccination rates, it has reportedly become a “worrying trend.”

Some of these countries include Uruguay, Bahrain, and the Maldives. They have successful inoculation drives, but have continued to endure significant infection and death rates these past few weeks.

Experts and officials are now wondering whether the high rates of vaccinations have placed the public into a “false sense of security.”

COVID-19 news and updates

Globally, the numbers of new infections and deaths have continued to show a decreasing trend. The active cases now see a total of 11,639,458, with only 0.7 percent that faces serious or critical conditions.

Earlier in May, the daily new COVID-19 cases reached nearly 700,000 on an average note. The figures have significantly decreased by nearly half come June.
