An Afghan refugee named Muhammad Ali was arrested for attempting to illegally cross the border as he wants to immediately flee the now Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, Reuters reported.
Prior to the Taliban takeover, Ali was already planning to mine Bitcoin and Ether, but he was forced to cancel his plans because of the unexpected event.
With the Taliban in control, he is already expecting those harsh restrictions will be enforced like the banning of smartphones, cameras, and Internet connections. That is why starting a crypto mining venture at this time would be dangerous.
2,000-kilometer journey
Ali traveled across northern Iran and crossed the Turkey-Iran border, which was a 2,000-kilometer journey, but he and his group were immediately arrested by the police after crossing the border.
And Ali isn’t alone in his desperation to escape. Hundreds of thousands of people in Afghanistan want to escape from the country since the Taliban took over the government.
With the U.S. military now gone in the country, it appears that Afghanistan has become a more dangerous place than it used to be. That’s why Afghans have no choice but to escape than to suffer from the inhumane governance of the Taliban. Just like Ali, lots of citizens have chosen to escape on foot just to get outside of Afghanistan.
Being deported to Iran
Even with the Afghans’ illegal action of crossing borders, it seems that the Turkish authorities are showing some mercy on citizens by not sending them back to Afghanistan. Instead, they are being deported to Iran.
Afghans who were not able to escape are expecting that internet access would soon be closed down as the Taliban tightens its grip on the war-torn country.
