Players should rejoice as it’s near the end of the week, and more free games. Epic Games has games for free, while Xbox Live Gold has superb titles for the weekend.
The Epic Games Store gives away free games every Thursday, which is awesome. Last week, EGS gave away Remnant: From the Ashes and The Alto Collection. This week, they’re giving away rogue-lite Enter the Gungeon and God’s Trigger.
To make the pot sweeter, Xbox Live Gold has three free titles to try over the weekend. These include AAA hero-shooter Overwatch, Wreckfest, and F1 2020.
Epic Games Store gives away two top-down shooters
Epic Games gives away a couple of titles a week, translating to eight titles a month. The games are excellent too, as they like giving away a few AAA titles to make it worthwhile. This week, the theme seems to be top-down titles.
Epic Games is giving away Enter the Gungeon, a bullet hell dungeon crawler. The game tasks players to shoot, loot, dive roll and keep moving. They would need to do whatever they can to find a “gun that can kill the past.”
Enter the Gungeon lets players pick several characters with their fighting styles. From there, it’s a Binding of Isaac style looter shooter. It’s a fun little title that can give hours upon hours of fun.
The other game the Epic Games Store is giving away is God’s Trigger. Among its genre, the title is among the more eclectic choices. It’s an ultra-violent top-down shooter reminiscent of Hotline Miami.
God’s Trigger is a superb title that is easy to digest in short bursts. The visual design is awesome, using a 2.5D partially isometric map with a 2D character. Kills are glorious and bloody, making it not for the faint of heart.
Xbox Live Gold has three titles free to try this weekend
For those who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, free games are not new. Even then, the free to try titles this coming weekend are some of the best. They’re AAA titles that will likely make you consider buying them if you don’t have them.
The first limited free title is Overwatch. For those living in caves, Overwatch is currently among the biggest AAA hero shooters in the world. For those who are yet to give it a go, this is a great time to taste Blizzard’s ultimate shooter.
Wreckfest and F1 2020 are more niche titles that go on opposite spectrums of their genre. While Wreckfest is 100% demolition derby arcade racing, F1 2020 is as much as you get with racing sims. Regardless, these free games are great to pass up the time for people with Xbox Live Gold.
