CW’s Batwoman is getting another lead character after Ruby Rose decided to leave the show. Moreover, the new star of Batwoman season 2, Javicia Leslie, has won the role after auditioning over zoom.
Back in May, news broke out that Ruby Rose, who played the role of Kate Kane, will be leaving the series for good. The decision, reportedly, sprouted after Rose had seriously injured herself during the set.
In season one, the story follows the adventures of Kate Kane as she was entrusted to protect Gotham from its destroyers. However, CW will not recast the role of Kate Kane but has decided to introduce a new character altogether. Thus, season 2 will focus on Ryan Wilder as she transforms to fit the heroic life.

Although the fans have come to love the character of Kate Kane in season 1, the showrunner has shared a glimpse of how to introduce Ryan Wilder to the fans. Showrunner, Caroline Dries explained that Kate’s disappearance in season 2 would play a major role in Wilder’s character. She said:
“But [Rose’s exit] also gave us this unique opportunity to create a new Batwoman. I decided to make up a character named Ryan Wilder who is the opposite of Kate Kane. Ryan Wilder is a character that Batwoman needs to protect. It just provided a new rich storytelling device for us.”
In contrast to Kate Kane’s character, Ryan Wilder is an ex-criminal. Moreover, she is a trained fighter and a drug peddler. Unlike Kate, who comes from a wealthy family, Wilder lives in her van, surviving on her own.
What to expect from Batwoman season 2
Showrunner Dries confirmed that Kate Kane will mysteriously disappear in season 2. Thus, Ryan Wilder will take the lead in protecting Gotham. Fans have also theorized that Ryan Wilder will do what it takes to uncover the disappearance of Kate Kane.
