After a series of delays, it looks like the wait was worth it as Cyberpunk 2077 launch breaks records on both Steam and Twitch.
To say that fans were very patient is an understatement. CD Projekt Red first announced Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2013. With seven years in the making and facing multiple delays, it looks like the fans’ patience had paid off. Seeing the game break multiple records on its launch day, it’s safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest game launch of 2020.
More than that, it now also has the biggest single-player launch in the history of gaming.
Record-breaking Cyberpunk 2077 launch
People who think that fans are over-hyping the open-world action-adventure game will probably have their jaws drop at Cyberpunk’s insane figures.
On Steam alone, Cyberpunk 2077 has broken through one million counts in concurrent barriers. This feat is not easy to achieve, and so far, only three other games have managed to accomplish this. These games are PUBG (3.26m), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (1.31m), and Dota 2 (1.3m).
CDPR’s new game has capped out at 1,003,264 on its first day. But one trait that makes Cyberpunk 2077 stand out from the rest is that it is the only single-player game to reach such a milestone in Steam’s history. The closest single-player game after Cyberpunk is Terraria, with around 400k concurrent viewers. Those figures don’t even come close.
But Steam isn’t the only platform where the game is making waves.
Taking over Twitch
Cyberpunk 2077 has also found immense success on Twitch. Many of the fans and players that chose to let the chaos of the launch pass have taken to Twitch to watch other players get in on the fun.
Because almost every major streamer on the platform has streamed the game, it became the eighth title to ever pass one million views on Twitch. Peaking at 1,140,960 viewers, CDPR’s latest project has become the sixth most viewed game on the platform. These figures are just behind the likes of Fortnite, League of Legends, Valorant, and CS: GO.
This also means that it is the only single-player game to achieve that so far.
About the game
Cyberpunk 2077 is an action-adventure RPG that takes place in the fictional Night City. Here, players assume the identity of the customizable character, V, a hacker, as he( or she) traverses the game’s vast open-world and carve up his own path.
The game has received universal acclaim from critics, according to Metacritic. Many praised the game for its story and the overall quality of its open-world and settings.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now out on Windows, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with a next-gen version for the PS5 and Xbox Series X coming in 2021.
