Despite the recent novel coronavirus (COVID-19) scare, the Cyberpunk 2077 developers, CD Projekt Red, are keen to finish the game as soon as possible to avoid the delay in their scheduled launch on September 17, 2020.
The gaming studio posted on its official Twitter account that they are already taking the necessary steps in response to the coronavirus pandemic:
Many of you are probably wondering how things are at CD PROJEKT RED right now. Here’s a short update. pic.twitter.com/aWfHobgtoM

“We have been adapting to the situation and gradually rolling out preventive measures across our entire organizations,” the tweet read.
CD Projekt Red upgrades equipment, infrastructure for WFH arrangement
Alongside the preventive measures, the studio mentioned that their employees will be working from home (WFH). The company is currently upgrading its systems and infrastructure in preparation for the employee’s remote work.
“We’ve also been upgrading equipment and infrastructure and working towards enabling our employees to work remotely, from the safety of their homes,” added the studio.
According to the statement, they are rising to the challenge and showing no signs of ceasing their efforts to continue the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 this coming September.
Other gaming developers to work remotely
This move by CD Projekt Red is not isolated in the gaming industry. Most major game developers have already taken similar actions to prevent the spread of the virus and to maintain the safety of their employees.
Last week, Bungie, Destiny 2’s developer, released that all their staff will be working from home indefinitely. Rockstar and EA did the same, while Microsoft will be working remotely until March 25.
Cyberpunk 2077 expected to be a massive hit, movie tie-in likely
Cyberpunk 2077 made waves last year during the release of its cinematic trailer. The end of the trailer revealed that Keanu Reeves will be part of the game as well.
The game is expected to be a massive hit similar to Witcher 3. One difference between the two is how huge the game is in terms of storage. Cyberpunk is expected to take up 80GB of hard drive space.
Alvin Liu, the game’s UI coordinator, said that there will be downloadable content available that will expand the game’s base story. Full-game sized campaign stories are also expected as the player dives into the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
For fans hoping for a movie version, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk franchise, hinted that Reeves being tied up to the game increases the possibility of making it to the big screen.
Coronavirus could still delay launch
Knowing that Cyberpunk 2077 is still in development and there are no delays as of the moment gives a breath of relief. It is almost done and very much complete with few tweaks to the gameplay.
However, the coronavirus pandemic is still slowly spreading, and we have no assurance of what is coming in the next days. The fans who replied to the studio’s tweet, though, showed support that if a delay is inevitable, they will perfectly understand.
Your employees come first, if this game needs to be delayed no one will blame you. In fact I’ve love for this game to be delayed if it means it kept your folks safe.

If things go well, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, and Google Stadia this coming September.
