Eagle-eyed fans have discovered yet another Blade Runner Easter Egg, “tears in the rain,” in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay.
According to Geeky Gadgets, Cyberpunk 2077 has taken a lot of inspiration from the Blade Runner films. It’s a known fact already. But curious fans and players always highlight it by finding many Easter Eggs in the gameplay itself. The latest one references the “tears in the rain” sequence in 1982’s original Blade Runner film.
Cyberpunk 2077: A box filled with Easter Eggs!
The newest Easter Egg is very special since it directly references the “tears in the rain” scene of Roy Batty in 1982’s Blade Runner. In Cyberpunk 2077, just like the sci-fi movie’s ending, a replicant-type NPC is seen sitting on a rooftop with a bird. This specific moment is so close to the actual film that it will transport several players back into the dystopian world of Ridley Scott’s directorial.
Here’s the actual dialogue from that famous raining scene in the first Blade Runner. Playing a replicant, Roy Batty, in a monologue, says:
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. [laughs] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears in the rain. Time to die.”
Before this iconic reference, several other Easter Eggs have been present in the CDPR title. Like the origami crane on a table in the hotel lobby. A Roy Batty tombstone is also a cemetery with “tears in the rain” as its main quote. Plus, there’s a Batty’s hotel as well!
So it seems like Cyberpunk 2077 loves this particular replicant character actor a lot. And that’s why there are so many references to him across the game’s different areas.
What’s next for CDPR’s most significant release to date?
Currently, CD Projekt Red and the entire team behind the most significant 2020 launch are trying to fix everything wrong with the game. And that’s quite obvious as well. Since its hyped and awaited release in December, Cyberpunk 2077 is facing many controversies. From the low-performance issues to endless refund cases. However, after more than a month of a problematic ride, it seems to be going alright at the moment.
But there are still many bugs and glitches to be solved. Thus, developers want to ensure a brilliant gameplay experience for everyone who purchased it and is still playing on a console. Recent updates and patches are signs of CDPR’s commitment towards its fans and gamers who want this game to become a masterpiece. Because in many gameplay videos, several streamers have praised Cyberpunk‘s main story, voice acting, and the emotional moments between characters.
