We’ve only got a few more months to wait before the release of CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 hits the shelves. The developers are also keen on letting us know their design perspective for the game.
Aside from a full single-player experience, CD Projekt Red is also planning on releasing a multiplayer aspect for Cyberpunk 2077. No release date has been given for this yet, but the developers are starting to provide us with a glimpse of their plans for this part of the game.
Multiplayer to have microtransactions
CD Projekt Red President Adam Kiciński recently held a Q&A with the company’s investors. Kicinski didn’t reveal anything groundbreaking about the multiplayer mode, including the release date. However, he does confirm that microtransactions are going to be a part of the experience.
Players shouldn’t be too worried about this, though. The developers are treading this part lightly.
As per Kicinski, the multiplayer aspect of the game is going to be a great setting for selling things to players. He adds that the development team is working on a means to introduce a microtransaction system that would make players feel happy to spend money on.
Of course, fans are hoping that the microtransactions are going to be predatory. Anything that goes to the realm of pay-to-win would surely disappoint fans of Cyberpunk 2077.
It’s hard to decipher what Kicinski means by making players feel happy when spending, but hopefully, the microtransactions don’t give any form of advantage. Fans quickly scrutinize games with multiplayer components that have such qualities.
A few years back, EA introduced a pay-to-win system in Star Wars Battlefront II. After receiving massive backlash, the company removed it. The microtransactions have since been completely overhauled.
Is it necessary?
According to reports, the developer has spent over $121 million in making the game. Adding microtransactions can drive profits even further for the game.
Adding microtransactions means that the game will also be getting regular content updates. Depending on how CD Projekt Red handles microtransactions, the feature could go smoothly. Fans aren’t criticizing the announcement yet, as the developers have had a good history with their microtransactions.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this November 20. Next-gen versions will arrive at a yet to be announced date. The game has been in development for years now, and fans are happy that no more delays are in store.
