The current Dallas Mavericks rosters’ depth is no issue, but they can use upgrades on several positions to provide an even more potent style of play on the court.
The Dallas Mavericks almost upset the Los Angeles Clippers before the Denver Nuggets even pulled it off. Clippers fans must have been relieved when both Doncic and Kristaps were pulled out of the games separately. The Mavs surprised many with their performance this year, and they are one or two pieces away from becoming legitimate title contenders.
Below are the top three players that the Mavs can sign to punch their assured ticket to the Finals next year.
DeMar DeRozan can boost the Dallas Mavericks
DeMar DeRozan was the unfortunate tribute for the Raptors to pry away Kawhi Leonard from the Spurs. His run with the Pop and Aldridge was mediocre, to say the least. When he’s on the court, the offense stumbles.
If Dallas can bring him in, he will provide an instant 3 and D upgrade on the wing. Yes, Dallas already Finney-Smith to do that. However, the Mavs can also benefit from his veteran presence on the court. In return, he will also benefit from Luka’s superb passing, where he’s comfortable shooting from the mid-range.
DeRozan averaged 22.1 pts, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in his 2019-2020 run with the Spurs.
Montrezl Harrell can find a new home in Dallas
Montrezl Harrell will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency opens up. The Clippers reportedly will work out to have him stay. However, there is no assurance he’ll stay put. After all, he’s one of the most demanded assets in free agency. Harrell provides the heart and soul of a team.
The Mavericks right now needs that glue guy. If they get to sign Harrell, the Mavs will get a solid 6th man option aside from Seth Curry. Luka will also get a pure pick and roll partner, which Harrell has proven to be in his runs with Lou Williams.
Paul Millsap can be the veteran guide
Millsap was the rock in the Nuggets’ run in the Playoffs. He’s just a shell of his former All-star self. However, he has developed into a new player altogether. Millsap has honed his outside shooting, which has earned the respect of opposing defense.
The Mavs can use a guy like Millsap. Not only he offers the veteran voice on and off the court, but he can also be the perfect mentor to Luka and KP. He’s seen it all, and he’s been tested throughout his career. Given the right guys around him, he can rally a team to a championship run just like what he did with the Denver Nuggets.
