David Archuleta refused to hold back again and finally came out as a member of the LQBTQIA+ community.

After years of being away from the spotlight, David Archuleta took people’s attention and shared news about his sexuality. On June 12, the singer shared a sunny photo of him alongside the news about him coming out.

Archuleta detailed how he balances his sexuality with his faith and shares his compassion for people who struggle like him.

“I’ve been open to myself and to my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my own sexuality,” he said.

He reportedly came out as gay to his family as early as 2014. However, during that time, he still dealt with uncertainty since he did not know if he’s bisexual or asexual.

Still, the singer admitted that his faith helped him realize his true identity. At the same time, he asked his followers to be more understanding and compassionate toward the members of LGBTQIA+.

“I think we can do better as people of faith and Christians, including Latter-day Saints, to listen more to the wrestle between being LGBTQIA+ and a person of faith,” he went on.

Archuleta famously joined American Idol in 2008 and scored second place during the finals. He released his most recent album, Therapy Sessions, in 2020.

In the same Instagram post, he asked everyone to share kindness with people since some want to live differently as days go by. Whether he should pick between his sexuality and faith, Archuleta said that reality helped him accept both, and they make him who he is today.

“You can be part of the LGTBQ+ community and still believe in God and His gospel plan,” he declared.

Coming out was never easy for him, though, as he needed to deal with the journey toward acceptance. According to the Crush hitmaker, he tried to change what he feels for 20 years.

But God made a move and made him realize his purpose. When he initially thought that being different was wrong, it was the same moment he knew it was okay.

Meanwhile, Archuleta also left advice to his followers, urging them to be more open about their opinions.

His friends and colleagues did not forget to support him as he tries to live with more freedom now. David Cook and Jordin Sparks both left their comments and expressed how proud they are of Archuleta.
