David Schwimmer finally revealed the real stand of Ross and Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) relationship on Friends. Did the two break up or not?
David Schwimmer finally weighed in on the greatest TV debate ever, 16 years after the show ended.
The 53-year-old actor graced the virtual episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and talked about Ross and Rachel’s relationship. Also, he revealed some details about the much-awaited Friends reunion special.
Did Ross and Rachel really break up?
In the iconic TV series’ third season, Rachel made it clear that she and Ross never broke up when he slept with Chloe (Angela Featherstone). However, Ross seemed to insist they were on a “break.” So, did they break up or not?
According to David Schwimmer himself, Ross and Rachel indeed split up. “It’s not even a question, they were on a break,” he said, per People.
This infamous TV break up seemed to be alive until today after the Madagascar Starr revealed people would yell at him, “you were on a break!” in public.
“People are so compassionately divided about whether or not they were on a break,” he continued.
In a survey conducted last year in celebration of Friends‘ 25th anniversary, it showed fans strongly believed Ross and Rachel really broke up.
Using the dating app Plenty of Fish, 60% of singles out of 1,865 participants believed Ross was telling the truth when he insisted they were on a break.
However, 44% or more women chose to believe Rachel, believing that Ross indeed cheated on her. Alternatively, 36% of men sided with Ross.

“It’s supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August, but honestly, we’re going to wait and see another week or two if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do,” he explained. “And if not, then we’ll wait until it’s safe.”
David Schwimmer also teased that the upcoming show would also feature “surprise bits.”
