Actor Dolph Lundgren has revealed that the anticipated DC sequel Aquaman 2, starring Jason Momoa, will begin filming this summer.
According to Comicbook, Aquaman 2 movie will start shooting this summer, as per cast member and actor Dolph Lundgren. London will be the location for the DC sequel to 2018’s blockbuster.
“And that’s coming out the following year in the theaters, they hope,” said Lundgren in a recent virtual Wizard World panel on Sunday. He also clearly mentioned that the second installment will arrive in December 2022.
Aquaman 2 early details
The DCEU title will see Jason Momoa’s return as Arthur Curry and Amber Heard as Xebellian Princess Mera. James Wan will helm the second part as well. However, there’s no detail over the main story and plot as of now. When it comes to the cast members, doubts and rumors were going on for the last few months over Amber Heard. After her legal battle with actor Johnny Depp, the latter’s fans demanded that she be fired from Aquaman 2. Because Depp also lost his role in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts.
But towards the end of 2020, actress Amber Heard dismissed rumors of her getting removed from the sequel. She expressed excitement for the start of the production of Aquaman 2. In the meantime, the petition to remove her gained more than 1.8 million signatures online in December. However, now it seems like it won’t matter much to Warner Bros.
Upcoming DC films in the future
Meanwhile, there are plenty of other DC-based movies coming in the next few years. Warner Bros. is set to give out great surprises to comic book fans. In March, the Snyder Cut of Justice League will finally arrive on HBO Max streaming service. It has been one of the most-awaited titles since its initial reveal and trailer premiere in August 2020.
This year was slated to bring Robert Pattinson’s The Batman on the big screens. But the COVID-19 pandemic forced it to move ahead, as it faced a lengthy delay last October. Now it will make its way next year, hopefully. Apart from the Matt Reeves directorial, The Flash, Shazam 2, and Black Adam are also among the Extended Universe’s anticipated flicks. On top of it, Warner Bros. already announced at the end of 2020 that Wonder Woman 3 is coming soon as well! The third part will bring together director Patty Jenkins and actress Gal Gadot a.k.a., Diana Prince.
Coming back to Aquaman 2, currently scheduled to release on December 16, 2022. If all goes well as far as the pandemic is concerned, it may arrive as per the deadline.
