Dean Mervyn Jones AM, a former Australian batsman, died at Mumbai. It came as a shock to everybody who loves cricket and is considered one of the fearsome players of his era.
He proved himself to be a talented commentator and a coach after his retirement. Many people are offering their condolences to his sad demise in social media ever since the news broke.
According to reports, Dean Jones went for a run in the morning of his death. He entered the hotel lobby with his fellow national, Brett Lee. Suddenly, Dean collapsed due to a massive heart attack, and Brett Lee desperately tried to resuscitate him by doing CPR. But his efforts ended up in vain, as he died there.
The retired Australian cricketer was in India as an Indian Premier League(IPL) commentator. The explosive batsman debuted for his nation in 1984, and his career spanned for ten years.
He retired in 1994 and pursued commentary and coaching. His fans loved and called him ‘Professor Deano’ for his analysis of cricket. He was a performer par excellence and played 245 first-class matches. Dean played 52 test matches and 164 one-day matches for the Aussies’ national team and impressed everyone with his paragon performance.
Dean Jones scored a massive total of 19,118 runs in the first-class matches he played. One of his fine plays was against India in Chennai. In the scorching heat of the city, he scored 210 runs for his team.
That score is the highest runs scored by an Australian player in India ever since. This match ended up as a tie, despite Deano’s sincere efforts. After battling with India in that match, he ended throwing up in the field and taken to the hospital. It remains as one of the many incidents where he showcased his love for the game.
Dean was well-known for his great gameplay and his warm attitude. As a result, Dean garnered a fan following for him all over the world.
After retirement, he got many opportunities as a coach and commentator.
Dean Jones was the coach of the Afghanistan cricket team for a brief period. He involved himself even in the Pakistan Super League(PSL) and the Karachi Kings team. He made himself a go-to man for commentary in cricket, which he was doing in IPL this year.
The Star network, which is responsible for broadcasting the IPL and the commentators, released a report mourning the demise of Dean. It stated that they are in touch with Australian officials for getting his body back to his home.
He has a wife, Jane, and two daughters, Isabella and Phoebe. Our deepest condolences are with his family.
