If ever there will be Death Note 2, its producer Masi Oka swears to make it better this time by taking on the notes from the first movie review.
Netflix made the first live-action adaptation of Death Note, and fans seemed to dislike the streaming network’s take. Some said it was far different from the original manga, so they hoped the making of Death Note 2 would fix these issues.
Fixing The Sequel Following Fan Complaints
In an interview with ScreenRant, Oka hinted the second live-action adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s brainchild is now in the works.
“Nothing has been decided either way,” he said. “I can say that we are listening to the fans.
“And hopefully, the fans will be happy with the direction we’re going,” he added.
It looks Oka will now do Death Note 2 with fans in mind. Everybody knows its huge fandom is the reason why the franchise has become mega-successful today.
Without them, the title will never be adapted into different mediums. It may not even run for decades with a number of sequels and prequels.
In fact, it has helped to build a foundation for anime around the world, Comicbook noted.
So, it may only be befitting that the producers will hear those fans out. Now, Oka wants them to know that they will be fulfilling their wishes.

The First Live-Action Movie’s Negative Review, Reactions
The first Death Note live-action movie received a mix of negative reviews and a huge backlash from fans. Many noticed it dramatically deviated from its source material.
The people behind the production were also accused of whitewashing for only featuring American cast members. It also removed the original Asian characters and setting.
Anyhow, despite these issues, Ohba and Obata still praised Netflix for doing a good job. They believed the movie could reach a much wider audience through the streaming website.
From here, the rumors about the making of a sequel began.
Though the film had yet to officially receive a greenlight, there are rumors that the second film is already in development.
It was reportedly in the works as far back as 2018 with the Mortal Kombat screenwriter Greg Russo to write the movie’s script.
Russo himself even earlier teased that Death Note 2 would be mostly based on the original manga compared to its predecessor. As it was the same thing that Oka said, it looks like they will now do the sequel true to its source material.
