‘Deathloop’ developers showcase more about the upcoming shooter for PlayStation 5

One of the best reveals during the game showcase for the PlayStation 5 last month was Deathloop. It’s an upcoming shooter from  Arkane Studios, and it’s easily turning heads with its trippy gameplay trailer.

Deathloop is more than just a shooter from Arkane Studios. The game will feature several time-bending elements, and fans have suggested that it will have intricate storytelling as it gives of Inception vibes. Just recently, the developers revealed more about the game to IGN.

It’s not a Roguelike

A Roguelike is a game in which death plays a heavy role. Players will die over and over again, in hopes of progressing further on their next run. In the upcoming shooter, the players will live a certain day again and again. Despite what it seems, the developers insist that the game is not a Roguelike.

“You are piecing together what happened on the island, who you are, and what you are doing here and how you can escape. The way it’s a bit different from a roguelike is, imagine that I find an important clue, and I die just after that. Progress is still made. You might lose the gun that you found, but the story has moved forward. [The Protagonist] Colt now knows something and the player both knows something important and they need to act on this thing,” says Dingka Bakaba.

Players control their own pace

The developers add that in the game, players are free to progress as they please. In Deathloop, time is a big theme in the game.

When players find a certain clue that progresses the story, they can die afterward. However, the fact remains that they have progressed the story at some point. This is how players will uncover the mystery of the island.

The game will not punish players if they want to play the game very slowly. This means players can enjoy all that the game has to offer. This is a good chance of pace as most shooters often force players on certain locks that prevent them from going back.

Deathloop is one of the first titles to be revealed for the PlayStation 5. It’s coming from Arkane Studios, the developers behind the critically acclaimed Dishonored series. A lot is expected from the game considering how big a success the series was. For now, it’s apparent that gamers are excited about Arkane’s next masterpiece.
