Demi Lovato released her single “Commander in Chief” on Tuesday. The song with provocative and politically-charged anthem received mixed responses from the netizens and Lovato didn’t back down from her critics.
Demi Lovato received mixed responses for her new song
The “Skyscraper” singer shared a screenshot of one of the critics’ direct message to her on her Instagram Story after she performed Commander in Chief at the Billboard Music Awards, Entertainment Tonight reported.
Apparently, many were not happy with her anti-Trump song. The critic informed Demi Lovato that her new song made those who don’t have the same political views as her feel like they couldn’t listen to her anymore.
The same user said she was ashamed to be Lovatic but won’t allow the song to change her feelings toward the singer.
“I really hope this doesn’t ruin your career Demetria,” the message concluded.
Demi responds to her critics
Demi Lovato said she received several messages with the same concern. So, she decided to share her response to the critic as well.
In her response, Demi reminded her critics that she is not just an entertainer but a netizen of the country, too. Just like others, she is a human with political views. And she told her critics, she didn’t care if her move would ruin her career.
“The difference between me and the type of artist you WANT and EXPECT me to be, (but I’m sorry honey that will never BE me) I literally don’t care if this ruins my career. This isn’t about that. My career isn’t about that,” Lovato wrote.
“I made a piece of art that stands for something I believe in. And I’m putting it out even at the risk of losing fans. I’ll take integrity in my work over sales any day.”
She added that she didn’t have time to be sad over those who were disappointed with her music because she’s too busy. In her response, she also mentioned her being queer and Hispanic and how people appeared to silence her.
Lovato and Max Ehrich split
A few month ago, Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich announced their engagement. But after two months, the two separated. Ehrich claimed Lovato didn’t talk to him and only knew of their split from the tabloids.
An insider claimed that Lovato planned a star-studded wedding with Ariana Grande as her maid of honor. She was also allegedly considering Sam Smith as the reception serenader. But apparently, the wedding is off.
Meanwhile, Lovato’s family was reportedly relieved that they already split. Based on the insider’s statement her parents didn’t like Ehrich. They were glad she saw the signs before they tied the knot.
