Demon Slayer has broke boundaries with its latest movie release, Mugen Train. It has surpassed Avatar’s records in Japan as the 10th highest-grossing film of all time.
Demon Slayer has been mesmerizing fans with its recorded digits since day one. A report came on Monday from MANTANWEB, Japan’s official website, that Koyoharu Gotouge’s animated movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie – Mugen Train now is the 10th highest-grossing film of all time in the country.
The movie has surpassed James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar which recorded 15.6 billion yen sales. Now, Avatar moved back on the 11th place.
Demon Slayer’s staggering digits
On November 1, the movie Demon Slayer garnered 15.7 billion yen (roughly USD 149 million) sales, with 11 million sold tickets in Japanese theaters.
It only took 16 days for the movie to sell over 10 million tickets. The film premiered in Japanese theaters last October 16.
Furthermore, a whopping 7,983,442 tickets were sold by the movie in its first ten days in cinemas. On October 25, it earned box office sales amounting to more than 10 billion yen (roughly USD 102 million).
It is also considered the fastest film to reach the 10 billion yen revenue mark in Japanese history.

Mugen Train smashed the records of the 2011 Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki. The movie earned the same digits in 25 days.
The movie’s eye-popping demand
In Japan, the film premiered in over 400 local theaters and 38 IMAX theaters. A report also circulated that the theaters are screening the movie up to 40 times a day. This is due to people’s demand. How cool is that!
The movie is expected to create another milestone in the next weeks for the animation industry.
In select Southeast Asian countries, ODEX will release the film as early this November. The remaining countries in Southeast Asia will have its premiere in early 2021.
Meanwhile, through Funimation and Aniplex of America, North American theaters will release as early as 2021.
