‘Demon Slayer: Mugen Train’ consistently ranks first for 12 consecutive weeks

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train took the No. 1 spot in its 12th consecutive weekend at the Japanese box office in terms of the number of tickets sold.

The Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has gone through a long way. Aside from surpassing all high-grossed movies of Japan, the film also has achieved many mesmerizing feats.

For the recent two-day weekend and the extended three-day holiday weekend, the film ranked number one.

It comes after defeating Japan’s former highest-grossing film of all time, Spirited Away, with 34.6 billion yen income.

The defeat of “Spirited Away” by Tanjiro and his friends

On the 73rd day of the movie at the Japanese box office, it has sold 24,049,907 tickets to earn 32,478,895,850 yen (about $314 million) as of December 27.

This made way for Demon Slayer to surpass the 2002 film of Hayao Miyazaki’s 2002 Spirited Away in Japanese box office history.

In the original run of Spirited Away, it earned 30.8 billion yen. However, after this summer’s revival screenings, it has since made a total of 31.68 billion yen.

Furthermore, on December 26, Mugen Train began holding immersive MX4D and 4DX screenings.

It can be recorded at the box office that Mugen Train is the first film since Hayao Miyazaki’s film earns more than 30 billion yen.

Mugen Train takes the record as the fastest film to reach the feat as Spirited Away took 253 days.

Mugen Train’s remarkable and soaring popularity

On October 16, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train began screening in Japan.

And in real-time, the film achieved the highest opening weekend globally for the October 16-18 weekend.

The film sold 3,423,930 tickets and earned 4,623,117,450 yen (roughly $43.85 million) in Japan in its first three days.

Just for its opening day, the film sold 910,507 tickets and earned over 1,268,724,700 yen (about $12.03 million).

The digits somehow made the movie achieve the highest weekday opening day in Japan ever.

Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has sold 25.48 million tickets on Sunday for 34.6 billion yen (roughly $336 million).
