The romantic fantasy film created by Makoto Shinkai, Your Name, has previously recorded US$358 million in earnings worldwide.

“Demon Slayer” keeps on slaying

As of this week, the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train anime earned US$357,986,087 worldwide. With the digits accumulated, the movie becomes the second highest-earning Japanese film of all time worldwide.

As announced on Wednesday by the Taiwanese film distributor Muse Communication Co., Ltd., the film has earned more than NT$600 million (about 2.2 billion yen or US$21.43 million). This is after 69 days in the Taiwanese box office.

Additionally, the movie was the third highest-earning film in Hong Kong in 2020. It earned HK$28.59 million (about US$3.69 million).

When combined with the movie’s current Japanese total of 34,642,116,000 yen (about US$336 million), the film has now earned the equivalent of US$361.12 million from these three territories alone.

Furthermore, the film also earned US$645,516 in Vietnam as of December 27, as divulged by the Box Office Mojo website.

The anime’s future is still an iceberg of possibilities

What’s more mesmerizing with the film is that its worldwide tally is still increasing. And the fact that Demon Slayer is not yet hitting the theaters in China, North America, and many other territories, significant growth of the digits is expected soon.

On October 30, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train opened in Taiwan and became its highest-earning film in 2020.

As of this moment, it is also the highest-earning animated film of all time in Taiwan.

Furthermore, the film has now sold a total of 25.48 million tickets for 34,642,116,000 yen (about US$335 million) in Japan. It ranks at #1 for 12 consecutive weekends.

Mugen Train also has surpassed the 2002 film Spirited Away created by Hayao Miyazaki. It was the last rival for all-time highest earnings in Japanese box office history.
