Everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed hero Lo Wang is coming back for a sequel as Devolver Digital reveals Shadow Warrior 3, with a gameplay trailer soon to follow.
After a four-year hiatus, publisher Devolver Digital and developer Flying Wild Hog have finally announced the next installment in the Shadow Warrior series, with its first-ever gameplay footage coming up on July 11 during the “Devolver Direct” event.
The gun-toting, katana-wielding ninja mercenary Lo Wang will be making his return to PC via Valve’s Steam platform sometime next year. In the meantime, fans can check out the stylish cinematic teaser trailer below.
A word from the Director of Shadow Warrior 3
According to the press release of Kuba Opon—the Game Director of Shadow Warrior 3—the upcoming sequel is looking to be a “fresh experience” filled with adrenaline-fueled action and packed with tons of new features.
Despite all the additions, however, developer Flying Wild Hog still wants Shadow Warrior 3 to feel familiar to fans of the series, while simultaneously being accessible to newcomers to the franchise.
Fans can expect an even wilder ride than ever before, as the devs have raised the stakes by having Lo Wang “face a threat so huge it may be too big even for him to handle.”
What the sequel has in store
Lo Wang’s latest misadventure has him journeying to recapture an ancient dragon he and his partner somehow let loose, in order to keep the resulting apocalypse at bay.
The mission sounds simple enough since all Wang needs to put the dragon back in its cage is “the mask of a dead god, a dragon’s egg, and a touch of magic,” not to mention an arsenal of weaponry and ammo.
Shadow Warrior 3 promises to bring back the series’ trademark blazing first-person shooting mechanics and swordplay, in addition to “a spectacular free-running movement system” complete with double jumps, air-dashing, wall-running, and a nifty grappling hook perfect for both combat and navigation.

According to the game’s official website, the upcoming action title will have players “execute spectacular finishing moves to claim a piece of your conquered foe and unleash its powers back on the horde”, which could mean a new mechanic that allows gamers to siphon off special powers from enemies.
Devolver Digital has yet to set an exact release date for Shadow Warrior 3, though the game’s official Steam page has it listed for 2021. There’s no word so far as to whether or not the franchise’s latest entry will be making its way to current or next-gen consoles, but the series’ track record makes it highly likely.
