As of new projections right now, Disney Plus will soon have around 194 million global subscribers. And it will probably happen by 2025!
According to Hollywood Reporter, Disney Plus is said to gain 194 million worldwide subscribers. Digital TV Research analyst Simon Murray presented a forecast on Monday. And it indicated that the streaming service would soon rise to the top.
“There seems to be a rapid slowdown in subscriber growth in countries after an impressive surge at launch,” he recently said. But regarding Disney‘s platform that launched in 2019, he was quite positive.
Disney Plus and the great consistency
The current projection by Simon Murray is interesting to notice because, in September, it was at 172 million. However, it’s still a little lower than his peak prediction of 202 million subscribers.
All these speculations and forecasts are based on the service’s constant performance this year. It’s especially regarding the quarter that ended in September.
Analyst Murray also praised the streaming platform’s consistency in his latest projection.
“Much of Disney+’ initial growth came from the U.S., mainly due to the attractive bundle of Disney+ with ESPN+ and Hulu. More recently, India’s Disney+ Hotstar subs count has rocketed due to its coverage of IPL cricket. The U.S. and India will account for nearly half of Disney+’ subscriber base by 2025.”
On the other hand, he also explained why he didn’t stick to his peak prediction of the service’s 202 million users by 2025.
“Apart from India, with cricket driving nearly 10 million more subs for Hotstar in the quarter to September, there seems to be a rapid slowdown in subscriber growth in countries after an impressive surge at launch. Disney is very good at pre-selling and launch promotions, but subscriber growth seems to slow after this initial period.”
Apart from Disney, the latest forecast tells that by 2025, about five big streaming services will have a total of 678 million video-on-demand subscribers. It says that Amazon will reach 167 million, HBO Max will have 28.5 million users, and Apple TV Plus will hit 13.4 million.
Murray also revealed that Netflix is speculated to generate $37 billion in revenue in the next five years. And Disney+ is expected to earn about $13 billion.
Upcoming titles on the streaming service
Meanwhile, the ongoing list of great shows on the Disney platform includes The Mandalorian‘s second season. The immensely popular Star Wars title has gained a kind of cult following in just one year! And currently, season 2 is doing the same, continuing the craze even beyond.
But next year will see a totally new line-up on Disney Plus, with Marvel titles like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Fans are waiting for these two MCU offerings for the last few months.
