Disney Plus has announced the specifics of its newest teen drama Clouds, inspired by Zach Sobiech’s story.
Amid the unprecedented health threat, most of the companies under the entertainment industry has decided to drop the release of their upcoming films. Warner Bros, one of the industry’s giants, is no exception either.
Recently, the network has announced that it has cancelled the theatrical release of its inspirational teen drama Clouds. Nevertheless, audiences who were highly anticipating this movie need not to worry. This is because the streaming platform Disney Plus has picked it up.
Clouds inspired by Zach Sobiech’s story
Reportedly, Disney has made Clouds its first feature acquisition and will premiere the movie on its Disney Plus streaming service. Clouds was directed by Justin Baldoni, well known for helming Five Feet Apart.

Moreover, the upcoming film is based on the memoir Fly a Little Higher. It was written by Laura Sobiech, as a way to honor his son Zack who suffered from a bone cancer. Laura has shared that it is the perfect time to share Zach’s story, especially now that the world is under a pandemic.
She stated,
“In the age of COVID-19, with the future of the theater business up in the air, it was extremely important to me to ensure Zach’s message of hope, faith and triumph in the face of adversity truly had the opportunity to touch as many hearts around the world as possible.”
Disney’s take on the upcoming movie
The company certainly thinks that they are the perfect home and platform for Zach’s inspiring story, and Laura Sobiech seems to agree. Ricky Strauss, president of content and marketing in Disney Plus shared,
“Justin Baldoni has created a poignant and uplifting tribute to Zach, whose story shows us the power of optimism, music, and human connection. As our team searches the world for stories that entertain and inspire, ‘Clouds’ is a fantastic fit for Disney+ and our global audience.”

Clouds follows the story of 17-year old Zach Sobiech’s journey in his senior year. Additionally, it will tackle navigate the complexities of love, friendship, family and leaving behind a musical legacy.
Before dying from cancer in May 2013, Zach formed the band A Firm Handshake and recorded the hit single Clouds. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and became a hit in the UK, Canada, and France, clocking No. 1 on iTunes seven years ago. Furthermore, a music video of Clouds garnered more than 14.3 million views on YouTube.
As for the cast, the film stars Fin Argus as Zach Sobiech, Sabrina Carpenter as his best friend and bandmate Sammy, as well as Madison Iseman as Zach’s girlfriend Amy. On top of that, Thomas Everett Scott and Neve Campbell will play Zach’s parents, Laura and Rob.
