Death Stranding, Kojima Production’s latest magnum opus, is already nearing its release. Making the port a worthwhile wait for PC players, a word is going around claiming that the game is going to hit the 100+ FPS mark with Nvidia DLSS 2.0 technology as its backbone.
That is exciting news for players on a different platform to PS4 indeed. With many PC players now opting for bigger displays, a high frames-per-second is necessary for more immersive gaming. While the touted technology requires Nvidia’s RTX GPUs, the trade-off in terms of performance is something of a must-have.
Fanciful on Big Screen
Depending on the resolution, players can experience the game at two distinct visual fidelity—100+ FPS at 1440p or 60+ FPS at 4K imagery. If anything, this meant a more distinctive comparison when playing the game on a beefy computer versus the PS4 Pro.
The high display resolution makes for one obvious disparity. However, the difference also speaks of the visual fidelity of the former’s quality render. Specifically, sharper images while not compromising on performance by keeping frame rates as high as possible.
Commendable Technology
A feat of such nature does not come without praise. Kojima Production’s Akio Sakamoto being among those who commend the technology by describing briefly what it does in terms of presentation.
“The extra performance Nvidia DLSS 2.0 delivers in Death Stranding allows gamers to unlock the vast graphical potential of the PC platform by increasing the graphics settings and resolution, delivering on the vision we have for the game.”
A Basic Overview
Speaking of Deep Learning Super Sampling 2.0’s magical feats would be difficult without going pedantic. But, let us cover just the basics.
Tapping on the potential of the DLSS 2.0 requires the right hardware, first and foremost. Specifically, it requires an RTX GPU, due primarily to its Tensor Cores. A hardware feature unique to the RTX products that render them with dedicated AI capability.
Having the right component in place, the real magic of the DLSS 2.0 technology arises with how it does graphics enhancement. That is, by using only a fraction of every pixel while leaving it to AI to produce high-quality images at high resolutions.
That means that with DLSS 2.0 enabled, visual fidelity is significantly enhanced at bigger displays in comparison to native resolution. One that makes a whole lot of difference than merely upscaling.
Not only does DLSS 2.0 make everything looked substantially fancier at high display resolutions but it also makes things faster as well. Twice than the original, even.
