Doc Rivers is upbeat about his future with the Sixers and is excited to work with the team’s power duo and young players.
Two of this season’s biggest underachievers have teamed up. Doc Rivers failed, yet again, to bring his team further into the Playoffs. The 76ers, on the other hand, still have yet to crack the code in winning in the Playoffs.
Similar in math, maybe this equation of a negative multiplied to a negative turns out to something positive for both parties. Fortunately, the Sixers and Doc Rivers are both elated to be working with each other moving forward.
Doc Rivers likes the idea of working with Embiid and Simmons
Rivers was officially announced as the team’s head coach today. Right at the bat, Doc acknowledged the greatness of both Simmons and Embiid as a power duo. He also recognized the real potential of both players individually.
He has high respect for Embiid’s dominance in the paint. Rivers even sees him staying in that form in the new system he’ll build for the Sixers. As for the chemistry between Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, Rivers immediately put out the fire with statistics. He said,
“They’ve won 65% of their games together … If you watch my teams, I don’t get lost in what positions guys play. My teams have always been very good offensively, top 5 overall, and we score points.”
The new Sixers head coach is also looking forward to working with the team as a whole. Rivers knows that the roster is loaded with talents from top to bottom. He is also excited to be working with Tobias Harris again.
The versatile wing player was used heavily in the Clippers system designed by Doc. It was also the same system that landed him a multi-year deal with the Sixers.
No rest for the veteran NBA coach
Doc Rivers was supposed to take some time off the NBA after a gruesome exit from the Playoffs this season. However, he said that the coaching job offered to him is something that is hard to pass upon. Also, one of the factors that drew him to the Eastern Conference team is the youth involved.
Instead of dealing with perennial superstars, Rivers will have his hands full in developing young players like Shake Milton and Matisse Thybulle. As such, picking up the phone for a chat with Elton Brand wasn’t a difficult task.
As soon as he was asked about his availability, Rivers took the plane and went to Philly to take a look at what the organization has to offer. It remains to be seen what the future will look like for the Sixers. However, just like in the past seasons, the expectations are still sky-high for the remodeled team.
